Why do some times my teeth look darker than the rest?

It is a little known fact that the whiteness of teeth is determined not only by the colour, density and transparency of the enamel, but also by the way it refracts light. When the teeth are misaligned, some of them stand out before or behind others, blocking the light from reaching them at the same angle. The teeth behind the protruding ones seem to have a darker colour, even though in reality they may not be darker or in worse condition. When the teeth are perfectly aligned they refract the light in equal measure, looking a uniform nuance of white.

If your dentist confirms that the reason for uneven tooth colour is an optical illusion due to misalignment, consider Invisalign treatment.
