Invisalign

The invisible “braces”

Toothopia offers orthodontic treatment with Invisalign for moderately to severely misaligned teeth. Your dentist will evaluate the suitability of your case for this type of clear aligners, commonly known as their brand name, Invisalign.

Invisalign comprises a series of custom-made transparent splints called aligners. They are discreet, removable trays that can be taken off while eating and tooth-brushing. The maintenance of oral hygiene is the easiest with Invisalign, as compared to traditional metal braces, which provides a higher level of comfort for the patient.

Depending on the severity of the problem, you will be assigned a different number of Invisalign aligners, each of which is to be worn for about 2 weeks. Each successive alignment helps the teeth move closer to the desired position. Your dentist will be continuously monitoring your progress. The whole treatment lasts an average of 6-18 months.

It is important to note that not all cases of dental misalignment can be corrected with Invisalign. Therefore, your first appointment will be focused on assessment and treatment recommendation.

All types of dental braces improve not only the aesthetics of your smile, but more importantly, your oral hygiene, health and ability to bite and chew. Depending on the case, your dentist will determine exactly what type of braces you need and will propose a treatment course that requires regular adjustments. Orthodontic treatment is a process that can take a few months to a couple of years, depending on the severity of the problem. It requires commitment from patients to show up for regular check ups and brace adjustments, as well as to clean and maintain their teeth every day during treatment.

Good to know

Wearing a Retainer

Following the process of orthodontic teeth alignment, patients must wear a dental retainer in order to maintain the results of the treatment. There are two main types of retainers: fixed and removable. The latter can be worn only at night. The fixed retainer is a piece of wire fixed behind your teeth with white filling material. Your dentist will recommend the type of retainer most suitable to your case.

Diet and Hygiene

Your dentist will advise on the types of foods to avoid and how to clean your teeth whilst wearing braces. Wearing braces won’t cause damage to your teeth, but may make cleaning your teeth more difficult. Plaque can easily build up around the braces. Your dentist will advise on the best cleaning techniques and tools to prevent cavities and gum inflamation.
