Dental Implants

What are they and why you may need them

Replacing a missing tooth with an implant is a popular treatment procedure with an excellent success rate and aesthetic results. A dental implant is simply a screw made of a special bio-tolerant material that is fixed in the jaw bone. Dental implants are a good solution when you have lost one or more teeth due to trauma or extraction. They are a great substitute for removable prostheses (dentures). When used as a substitute for a non-removable dental bridge, implants preempt the need to have one or more teeth filed down to a stump.

Dental implants can be a good substitute when the retention and stability of a denture in the mouth are compromised or when there is an intolerance to dentures due to severe gag reflex. Alternatively, dental implants can serve as anchors for your dentures, endowing them with the stability of a non-removable appliance.

Good to Know

Bone augmentation

In case of insufficient amount of bone structure to host the dental implant, synthetic or natural materials can be used to increase the quantity and quality of bone.

Sinus lift

In certain cases, it may be necessary to lift the floor of the sinus by means of a bone substitute, which would allow the insertion of dental implants in the back of the upper jaw.

Soft tissue augmentation

Some cases may require a surgical procedure on soft tissues to achieve optimal aesthetic and biological results.
