Endodontics

Root canal treatments

The most commons causes for toothache are pulpitis, periodontitis and dental trauma. In layman’s terms, pulpitis is an inflammation of the dental nerve (tooth nerve), whilst periodontitis is an inflammation of the bone around the root of the tooth. Both conditions present with pain that can become very severe, in which case an endodontic treatment is recommended.

Commonly known as root canal treatment, endodontic treatment helps inflammatory or non-inflammatory (trauma) conditions of the dental pulp, which would result in tooth loss if left untreated.

Endodontic treatment includes the removal of an inflamed or dead nerve of the tooth, cleaning, shaping and filling of the root canals. Unlike tooth extractions, this procedure can preserve your tooth in the case of abscess, pulp inflammation or a cyst. It may also be your personal preference to keep your tooth for as long as possible, rather than have it removed.

Whilst the goal of endodontic treatment is to remove pain without removing the tooth, an extraction may still be necessary. However, if done properly and in a timely manner, the treatment has a success rate of above 90%.

At Toothopia, we have access to the latest materials and equipment, and we will do our best to preserve your tooth and prevent its removal.
